Hello Year 5
Welcome to July!
This time we will be looking at a Victorian engineer- Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
Have a look at this power point all about his life and achievements.
There are some comprehension and fact file activities relating to him- please do what you feel you are able to do.
This is the link to a Youtube video with information on different bridges.
Use the map I have provided to locate where these bridges are in the world.
I have also given you activities that will help you to design, build and evaluate your own bridge.
Maths is all about angles- again only do what you are comfortable with.
Here is the link to a Youtube video about the Apostle Paul who was previously called Saul.
Imagine you are Ananias- he was afraid of Saul but he loved God and did what God asked of him.
Have a think about the things that you have been afraid of but the trust you have in God and/or others has helped you to over come your fears.
There seems to be a problem with the Power Points.
It's because Twinkle- the website I use- has stopped free subscription so you can't access them as a link.
They should now be available without using the link.
I will attach them now.
Hello Year 5,
Welcome to another week of learning at home.
This time we will be learning about lighthouses and Grace Darling.
Here are the power points:
I have also given you a timeline activity based on the story of Grace Darling- as always choose the one that you feel comfortable with.
For those who like a writing challenge, I have attached the success criteria for a newspaper report.
Perhaps you could re- write Grace's story from a journalist's point of view.
I would also like you to research the lighthouse at Old Hunstanton- there is a lot of information on the internet and you could create a time line for its history.
I thought we could concentrate on multiplication this week. I have attached different activities for you to have a go at.
The following link is to an animation about faith.
Watch it and see if you can make a list of all the things you have faith in.
What do you 'kind of just know' ?
Think about some things that you take for granted- that might help.
Science this week is another simple investigation- please send me some photos of your results.
Hi Year 5
I am really sorry for the 'blip' with the power points!
The following links should get you there!
Hello Year 5,
I hope you are all well and safe. I know the weather has not been too good this week but the gardens and crops need the rain!
Hopefully, the sun will return soon.
I have put more activities on here for you to have a go at. As always, do what you feel you are able to do.
There is some more Victorian history- this time about seaside holidays. Perhaps you could imagine you are a Victorian child and write a post card from your resort- remember to use the power point to help with your imagination.
There is some data handling for Maths and a reading activity that involves you using your inference and reading 'between the lines.'
I hope you enjoyed last week's science investigation. This week I have given you an investigation all about soap!
Today is The Festival of Corpus Christi- have a look at the power point and see if you can create a poster to invite people to the celebration.
Send me your work and keep in touch through Starz.
Be patient and kind- life is slowly going back to normal.
Hello again Year 5,
I know that some of you will be disappointed that you cannot return to school yet but be patient.
I am still available to chat to via Starz and I will continue to put work on the Year 5 website page.
For those that have sent me their work- I am in the process of uploading some of it to the website- I love seeing that you have been busy and working hard.
There is some work on Victorian hospitals and here is the link to a Powerpoint all about Florence Nightingale. It would be good if you could research her further and perhaps create a document of your own showing what you have discovered.
For Maths there is some ratio and proportion work- this is really useful for real life- especially when cooking and baking!
For Science I have given you an amazing experiment. I also want you to put two more variables in as well as just water- lemon juice and sugar water! That means you will have 'control' (no liquid) a piece of bread with water, a piece with sugar water and a piece with lemon juice- be patient it will take a few days to see a result.
It would be great if you could send me photos of your results. What did you find out and why did that happen?
Given that we have just celebrated Pentecost, have a look at this Powerpoint and video. I have also attached a worksheet.
Have fun. Be kind.
SCHOOL REPORTS - 2020
YOUR CHILD'S SCHOOL REPORT WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR COLLECTION FROM THE SCHOOL OFFICE ON WEDNESDAY 20TH MAY BETWEEN 12PM AND 3PM. PLEASE NOTE YOU WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO COLLECT YOUR OWN CHILD'S REPORT. THANK YOU.
Hello Year Five,
Welcome to another week of learning at home.
There are some 'real-life' Maths activities below.
Here is the link to Southwell Workhouse- I had planned for us to go there but unfortunately we won't be able to.
Have a good look at their website and maybe when you are able to- your parents may take you.
I have also attached some other bits about Victorian workhouses.
There is also an ebook to read.
As the weather is going to be a bit better this week, I thought you'd like to have a go at an outdoor scavenger hunt. There is one attached. Then, perhaps, you could have a go at devising your own- either indoors or outdoors.
The above link is to a really good web page that shows you what to look out for during May in the night sky.
This one shows you when and where to see meteor showers during May. Remember we are in the Northern Hemisphere.
You could produce some art work based on the night sky.
I have included some ideas for making a wind chime too.
Finally, the following link is to a site where you can create your own word searches and either give them to someone to print off or solve interactively. I've created one for you- see if you can solve it and then make one for me!
Remember to send me any photos or videos (no faces please) via Starz and I will put them on the school website.
Stay safe. Be kind.
Hi Year Five,
I have been sent some lovely photos of the work you have completed.
I would love to see more- you can take a photo and upload it it to Starz.
Hello again Year 5,
Are you ready for another week of staying safe and learning at home?
I am putting another week of work on here.
Once again- don't try to tackle it all- you and whoever is looking after you can decide which bits you try.
However, the weather isn't going to be as warm this week!
We are continuing with our work on Victorians. There is some English work linked to this topic too.
Maths is all about perimeter and area- some of it is quite challenging- I know that some of you will enjoy that!
There are some cool science experiments too.
RE this week is all about compassion. I hope you enjoyed the resilience work last week.
Remember to use the BBC Bitesize resources- they are really good- and the 'lessons' are short.
I will be putting some photos of what I have been up to on Starz.
Keep in touch and appreciate the people looking after you.
Hello Year Five.
I hope you had a lovely weekend and have been enjoying this glorious weather.
Please make sure you take every opportunity to learn and have fun outdoors.
Can you imagine how much worse this would have been it it were Winter?
I have uploaded some more work for this week.
Please don't feel obliged to complete it all- just tackle what you and your parents/carers feel you are able to.
However, I know you all enjoy a challenge so there is something for everyone.
If you get the chance to get hold of a copy of a book by Berlie Doherty called Street Child- I suggest you read it. It is fantastic story, one that we would have been reading in class. It is linked to our Victorian topic.
I know shopping for non-essential items is not allowed but there is plenty you can do with bits and pieces that you find at home. Don't lose your creativity- make something. It could be a collage, a painting, a model, a tool, a garden ornament or some food. Make sure you upload any photos so that we can have a look.
There are lots of ideas on line. Oh and don't forget BBC Bitesize- I'll be visiting that website myself!
Finally, take care, enjoy the wonderful world around you that is coming to life- Covid 19 can't stop that happening!
Hello Year Five!
It's great to be back in touch with you all again.
I hope you all had a wonderful, if not different, Easter. The sunshine was lovely wasn't it?
I did lots in my garden. I trust that you are helping your parents and carers out as much as you can and keeping yourselves busy- not just on The X Box or Nintendo Switch!
I am uploading some work for all subjects and I will be in touch with you all via Starz. Please do not hesitate to contact me by email or by using Starz. I would love to hear from you. The work I set will be on a weekly basis. I know how conscientious you are as a class and I don't want you to work too hard! Please don't attempt all the Maths- choose some that you know will challenge you as a learner.
We are living through unprecedented (look that word up) times at the moment and All Saints staff want you to remember the happy times you spent with your family- picnics in the garden, board games, movies with popcorn, gardening, cooking, clearing out old toys and games to donate when the shops are open again. You could even write a journal about your life during 'lockdown'. You never know in a hundred years time extracts from your journals could be used in history books!
Enjoy the work I've set. Enjoy being with your family.
