Living British Values at All Saints Through SHINE

🇬🇧 Democracy – Shaping Hearts Through Shared Voice

Children at All Saints understand democracy by experiencing it in action. Through our School Council, children learn the language and process of democratic elections, understanding the importance of representation and responsibility. Elected members listen to their peers, canvass opinions, and bring forward suggestions — showing Integrity and Service in leadership.

Day-to-day classroom life offers further opportunities to participate in decision-making — from voting on class rewards to selecting group spokespeople. These experiences promote Hope that every voice matters and nurture a sense of belonging and shared responsibility.

Democracy is also woven into our History curriculum, helping children understand how societies are shaped and how they can be positive agents for change.

⚖️ Rule of Law – Living With Integrity and Respect

At All Saints, the Rule of Law is understood through our commitment to Integrity and shared values. Children are taught that fairness, justice, and accountability allow everyone to experience a safe, happy learning environment — a cornerstone of our SHINE vision.

Our behaviour policy, rooted in consistency and compassion, reflects our values of Service and Nurture. Clear expectations and consequences help children feel secure and supported, while classroom and playground rules are developed in partnership with pupils.

Through curriculum links and visits from the emergency services, children learn about laws in the wider world and the role of those who serve and protect us — reinforcing both Service and Excellence in action.

🕊️ Individual Liberty – Inspiring Confidence and Hope

At All Saints, we encourage children to make safe, informed choices, supported by a nurturing environment where every individual is valued. Children are taught that freedom comes with responsibility, and that Integrity and Hope guide us in using our liberty well.

Key examples include:

  • NSPCC PANTS Day, where children create safeguarding hands, naming five trusted adults they can talk to.

  • E-Safety Days using CEOP resources, helping children understand how to protect themselves online.

  • Targeted parent sessions on online safety, supporting our wider community.

  • RSHE Curriculum, which allows for open discussion around emotions, relationships, and personal choices.

These experiences equip our pupils with the confidence to speak up, the courage to be themselves, and the skills to make good choices — helping them to shine.

🤝 Mutual Respect – Nurturing Positive Relationships

At the heart of All Saints is a commitment to Nurture and mutual respect. Our community includes many children and families who have experienced trauma. We respond with compassion, understanding, and professional training — ensuring all children are treated with dignity and empathy.

Children learn that respect is not just expected but modelled. Through consistent relationships and high expectations, they understand how to treat others with kindness, patience, and fairness. This is where Service, Integrity, and Excellence meet — in how we treat each other every day.

🌍 Tolerance of Those of Different Faiths and Beliefs – Celebrating What Makes Us Unique

At All Saints, we celebrate diversity and recognise the beauty of both shared and differing beliefs. We honour our Christian foundation while also embracing the many cultures and faiths represented in our school family.

Children learn about different religions through Collective Worship, RE lessons, and cross-curricular discussions, including learning about historical perspectives and religious festivals. This approach fosters Hope for a peaceful, inclusive society and encourages children to engage with others in a spirit of curiosity and respect.

Prejudicial incidents are rare and taken seriously. Children report feeling safe and welcomed, and new pupils settle quickly — a reflection of our school's strong Nurture and inclusive ethos.

At All Saints, our SHINE values are not just ideals — they are lived experiences that help our pupils grow into compassionate, courageous, and confident individuals who are ready to make a difference in the world.
