Burghley House
We were very excited for our class trip to visit Burghley House in Stamford. We had chosen this venue as it offered a range of fun and engaging educational activities. Burghley is a historical and inspiring venue for learning and is a lovely environment for the children to explore.
The workshops planned link nicely to our science and DT work.
Workshop one was linked to our science topic- ‘Green plants who needs them?’
Our world needs green plants! The children learnt about conservation and caring for plants. They looked at the different parts of a plant, how they feed and reproduce. The importance of plants within food chains was stressed in the ecology of the living world. The children also explored the life cycle of plants and learnt some aspects of identification.
Workshop Two is linked to our DT learning-Sculptures!
In this session, the children used the beautiful, natural environment of Burghley Gardens as their inspiration to create a clay piece of art.
In addition to the workshops, children were able to explore the Burghley Gardens where they found hidden trails, imaginative planting and Elizabethan trickery. Finally, they ended the day with a firm favourite-the Adventure play! Burghley's awesome woodland adventure play area Hide & Secrets is themed around William Cecil as the country’s first Chief Spymaster and features a series of fun-packed play zones that lead to the Hidden Towers.
