As part of our RE topic, we learnt about special places including the church. We talked about special occasions and ceremonies which would take place in a church-baptisms and weddings.

After discussing the importance of rings, promises made and discussing why many Christians choose to get married in a church, we decided to act out our own wedding.

Children were given the opportunity to put their names in a hat in order to take on the role of someone from the wedding party. Some children chose to enjoy the wedding as a guest.

Visit to St John's church

Reception class visited St. John's church to take part in a harvest trail. The children were set a challenge of finding  scarecrows and then finding a letter attached to each one, which when put together spelt the word 'Thankful.'  Attached to each scarecrow was an explanation of why Christians believe harvest is so important and why it is a special time of the year. After the scarecrow trail, we went inside the church to look at the church colours and sing and dance along to the harvest samba song. The children had great fun!
